Your yard and your choices drive the final price. Here are the variables that matter most:
- Pool size: A 16×32 costs less than a 20×40. Bigger shapes mean more materials and more labor.
- Soil conditions: Parts of the Pee Dee have clay-heavy soil that affects excavation time and equipment.
- Deck surface: Poured concrete, stamped concrete, and pavers each carry different price points. Stamped concrete is the most popular choice among our Florence clients.
- Fencing: South Carolina law requires a barrier around residential pools. This is a real line item, plan for it.
- Permits and utility hookups: Electrical service, gas lines for heaters, and local permits add to the total cost.
Upgrades That Are Worth the Investment
Two upgrades consistently pay for themselves in how much the family uses the pool.
A pool heater. Florence averages around 220 sunny days a year, but water temperature limits most unheated pools to five or six months of real use. A heater pushes that to nine or ten months, from late February through November. Most heaters add $3,000 to $6,000 to the build. Divide that over ten years and it is one of the best-value additions on the list.
Water features. Waterfalls, sheer descents, and deck jets do more than look good. They aerate the water, add ambient sound, and make the backyard feel like a resort rather than a rectangle of water. September and October are the best months to begin the process in South Carolina. Contractors have more availability, weather conditions are good for concrete and excavation work, and homeowners who start in the fall are swimming by spring before the hot months arrive.
